I was vacuuming the kitchen and it struck me, our kitchen rug was filthy! Vacuuming wasn’t going to cut it, I needed to deep clean it. It is only a 5’x7′ rug so it is easy to maneuver around, so I put a tarp out on the driveway and soaked it down.
I just used some dial soap and laundry detergent. I’m sure there are better ways to clean rugs, but this was an inexpensive rug that takes a lot of wear and tear in the kitchen. The dial soap worked way better than the laundry detergent. I used a brush and made a good lather and then rinsed it off thoroughly.
Luckily, our driveway gets pretty good sun, so I just let the sun dry it. It took about 2 days to dry through. One last vacuum, and it was ready to go back to the kitchen. I’m happy with how it turned out.

I may need to tackle a couple other rugs in our house since this worked fairly well. Summer cleaning is much better than spring cleaning!
